Time: 10.00am - 4.00pm
Price: £99 per session (6 Hours including lunch break)
Level: Some sewing experience useful
You will need approximately one metre of fabric for the cover.
Please note that due to the stitching techniques used in this process not all fabrics will be suitable. If you are bringing your own fabric please avoid heavyweight fabrics, satin fabrics and fabrics with a high degree of stretch. Ideally a medium weight cotton fabric should be used. If you require advice please get in touch prior to the course date.
In this workshop you will learn how to create this popular vintage French Mattress cushion perfect for dining chairs, floor cushions, daybeds, window seats and more.
During this one day workshop you will be guided through the process, including how to measure and cut your fabric, how to sew and make up a box cushion, and how to apply the hand stitching techniques to transform this into a mattress style cushion. You will be shown how to mark the stitch points and how to create the invisible hand stitches to the fabric. You can also learn how to make and add a button detail to your cushion should you choose.
As this element of stitching is time-consuming it is unlikely you will complete your project on the day, however we will provide you with a needle, thread and pins to take home with you allowing you to use the skills you have learned to finish your cushion in your own time
The class is suitable for all levels of experience however, some basic machine experience is preferable. Class sizes are kept small allowing for plenty of one-to-one support to guide you through these projects.
You will be provided with a 16" square foam pad. All other materials excluding fabric are included. Fabric is available to purchase from our onsite shop on the day, however, if you wish to bring your own fabric please see the info on fabric opposite.
